Family Pictures at Kennelly Park in Fairport

This family always likes to have fun with their family pictures. The last time we saw them, we went mini golfing with them. This time they were celebrating the littlest's first birthday, and they hit up Moonlight Creamery for an ice cream celebration.

But first, we captured some portraits of the whole family. We updated each child’s individual portrait, with a focus on their newly minted one year old.

Then after the family pictures were taken care of, it was time to celebrate with baby’s first ice cream cone!

What to Wear in Your Family Pictures: Tips from Fairport NY Photographers

One of the most asked questions about our family portrait sessions we receive is: “What should we wear?” So we thought we’d answer it once and for all, right here on the blog.

Here are some tips on what to wear for family pictures:

  • Choose neutral colors. Neutral colors like navy, black, brown, and gray are always a safe bet for family photos. They're flattering on everyone and they won't clash with the background.

  • Add pops of color. If you want to add a little bit of personality to your outfits, you can do so by adding pops of color. This could be a bright scarf, a patterned shirt, or a pair of colorful shoes. Just be sure to keep the pops of color small so that they don't overpower the rest of your outfit.

  • Consider the season. When choosing outfits for family photos, it's important to consider the season. For example, if you're having your photos taken in the summer, you'll want to choose light, airy fabrics. If you're having your photos taken outside in the winter, you'll want to choose warmer fabrics or plan out coordinating jackets.

  • Coordinate your outfits. You don't have to wear matching outfits for family photos, but it's a good idea to coordinate your outfits so that they look cohesive. This could mean choosing outfits in the same color scheme or choosing outfits with similar patterns.

  • Be comfortable. The most important thing is to be comfortable in your clothes. If you're not comfortable, it will show in your photos. So choose outfits that you feel good in and that you'll be able to move around in easily.

No matter what color scheme you choose, make sure that the colors flatter everyone in your family.

Here are some additional color schemes to consider for your family portrait session:

  • Earth tones: This color scheme is perfect for fall or winter photos. It's made up of warm colors like brown, tan, and rust.

  • Pastels: This color scheme is perfect for spring or summer photos. It's made up of soft, light colors like pink, blue, and yellow.

  • Monochromatic: This color scheme is all about using one color in different shades. It's a great way to create a cohesive look for your family photos.

  • Complementary colors: This color scheme is made up of colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. It's a great way to create a striking look for your family photos.

Most importantly, have fun with it! Family portraits are a time to celebrate your relationships, so make sure you enjoy the process of choosing outfits AND getting your family pictures taken.

Family Pictures for Train Lovers in Fairport NY

Do you have a train loving family, or train loving toddler? Then Fairport Junction (and the village of Fairport) might be the perfect setting for your next family portrait.

A love of all things “trains” runs deep in this family. So when we were planning their annual family portrait this year, I didn’t think “flowers and nature.” I thought of the train car at Fairport Junction.

There was also a visit to the Lift Bridge and a race to the crossing when a train announced it was rolling through the village. We got our steps in that night for sure! But this little cutie and her family are worth putting on my racing shoes on a hot summer night.

Honeoye Family Pictures: Fairport NY Photographers

Their annual fall family pictures took place around the time this kiddo turned 7. It began as soon as he got off the bus from school, with the dog waiting for them to walk up the long driveway.

Their family portrait session is full of candid, lifestyle family photography blended with posed portraits. It’s often a fast paced family session, which is so common with family pictures that include active kids!

There’s usually running, playing, jumping and leaf throwing involved. When they play, we photograph their big laughing smiles. At the end of the portrait session we’ll have added 2000 more steps to our fitbit.

These 3 (plus fur babies) are always worth every extra step.

Eastman Museum Family Pictures: Rochester NY Photographers

We know we’ve said it before, but it’s worth mentioning again. We LIVE for Spring.

Now that there’s a grandchild in the mix, this family was ready to come together and update their family picture. Eastman Museum was the perfect setting for this family portrait session.

The daffodils and flowering trees, alongside the architecture of the mansion created a beautiful backdrop for a wall worthy family portrait.

The garden and the buildings also gave their newly minted one year old easy spaces to climb and explore.

So if you come to us with a desire for family pictures in the Spring - we’re here for it.

Personal Brand Photography in Rochester NY

Rochester Family Orthodontics

When was the last time you enjoyed going to the dentist? For me - it was when we went to visit Dr. Maureen Wood, and her team at Rochester Family Orthodontics. However, we weren’t there for dental work.

We spent time photographing some brand photography for their new website. Because dentists need branding pictures too!

These ladies are great people to work with, and we look forward to seeing these photograph in action soon!

Senior Pictures in Williamsville: Maja, Class of 2023

Maja is a Clarence High School Senior, with a great smile and passion for the ice. We traveled down the thruway for her senior portraits to Glen Falls in Williamsville NY.

At Glen Falls, we used hidden little water falls to create some gorgeous senior pictures in a natural setting. After that, we visited North Town Ice Rink to show off her figure skating skills!

After as many years as we’ve been senior portrait photographers, it’s exciting to still have a few “firsts.” This senior session included the first time we photographed a figure skating senior portrait.

With the help of her coach, we shot a variety of jumps, spins and graceful poses to help Maja celebrate this passion in her senior pictures. It was a lot of fun, even though we lost feeling in our toes for a few minutes from the cold ice rink!

What passion would you include in a senior portrait?

Cheers to 10 Years: Fairport NY Photographers

WARNING: Long post ahead. (In a good way.)

It took us a full year to pull the trigger. We met for hours, daily to plan and prepare. We worked on our branding. We researched our target market. We wrote a business plan. We did everything the books and our mentors told us to do.

And on January 3, 2013, we went to the county clerks and officially began Lori & Erin Photography.

10 years ago. A lifetime ago, and a blink of an eye all in one thought.

It hasn’t always been graceful, and we’ve overcome a lot.

For example:

- We’re constantly adapting to life with children.
- We’ve lost loved ones.
- A freaking global pandemic.
- We’ve had quarter life crisis. (I mean, c’mon, freaking global pandemic.)

And none of that takes into account the ups and downs of running a partnership business.

Who does what?
Who gets what?
What do we do when finances are down?
What direction should our future go?

No question about it, it’s hard as heck a blast to work with your best friend, every. single. day. But it’s been worth every hard thing. We’ve overcome a lot of challenges, and we’ve evolved in the past 10 years - personally and professionally.

To our spouses, our family, our friends, our fellow photographers.
To every single client who has become family.
To every person who has in some way been a part of our journey.
Thank you to each and every one of you who have supported us from day one. We truly love you.

Dang am I proud of us, because this year we celebrate 10 years of Lori & Erin Photography.

Cheers!

Fairport Family Pictures on the Erie Canal

In their many years of coming to us for family pictures, I don’t think we’ve ever photographed their family portraits this close to home. When I suggested it, they were on board with giving it a try.

Thomas Creek Boardwalk is one of our favorite hidden little gems in Fairport. It’s nestled in the Village of Fairport, right alongside the canal path. There are a few different background options to work with, and they’re not far apart, which was especially important to this family session as we were dodging rain showers to make these pictures happen!

Also, can we talk about their color coordination for a sec? Perfection. Thanks for staying on brand, friends!

Victor NY Family Pictures at Boughton Park

I’ve been photographing family pictures for this group for 13 years.

Every year their family portrait feels more important than the last. It’s one year closer to the kids being full blown adults. It’s one year closer to them graduating high school. I can tell you right now, when that happens, I will be crying right alongside Mom and Dad as I take their senior pictures.

13 years of finding new ways to make them laugh at each other. 13 years of sibling goofiness. 13 years of growing.

The most important thing I’ve realized along the way? 13 years goes fast.

Holiday Family Pictures at Home: Fairport NY Photographers

Ok, I know, you’re not ready to think Holiday. But we are, because it’s our job to plan ahead. So check out this adorable at home holiday portrait session from last year.

This family portrait session in Webster NY was all about celebrating the holidays. We loved it!

With this little one and his family, there was no a lack of holiday spirit to these family pictures.

From matching pjs to playing in the snow together, reading about elves and making cookies together - this portrait session. This session was magical because we got to photograph all the joys of Christmas through a toddler’s eyes.
