We hear it all the time. "Oh, I've been meaning to get our family pictures taken - but..."
We all make excuses to avoid them. I've even said a few of them. But I'm trying harder now to be more present in my family's photographs. And I think you should too.
Here's the big three reasons we hear families give when it comes to not scheduling a portrait session:
1) My kids don’t sit still / They won't cooperate / They're just too crazy
So your kids are normal, active kiddos then? GREAT! Let’s see it! Don’t you want to remember them this little, having fun? When they never stopped moving? Capturing the crazy, real life stuff is just as important, if not more important, than getting your babes to sit still. Because it’s real. This is why we’ve got options like our membership program, and our upcoming, (brand new) day in the life sessions. For this crazy, fun, real life we live.
2) We’re way too busy right now, maybe next year.
Here comes Debbie Downer for a sec, but what if there is no next year? Really think about that for a minute. Would you still hesitate? Or would you make the time?
And if planning a session time is a tough, we can come to you! Like we said, we love your real life. Believe it or not, your own home can be the perfect setting for your portrait session. Maybe it’s breakfast and play time, or family dinner and a walk together. These are the times when you’re together in one place, so let us help you treasure them.
3) I need to lose 10-30 lbs. / I hate being in pictures
Yup, we know, so do we. And we all feel self conscious in photographs for various reasons. We need to lose weight, we have wrinkles and crows feet, our noses look funny in pictures. We’ve not only heard it all, but have said it all.
I'll repeat this part until I'm blue in the face if I have to. Your kids, your family, and your friends don’t care about your crows feet - and they won’t care about your extra 10 lbs now, or in 20 years either.
Right now, in this minute, all they care about is being with you. And I guarantee that they will care if they don’t have pictures of you. They’ll care, someday when they don’t have something to remember you or their childhood by.
In the end, there’s no good reason to not have your family portrait updated. None.
Because your kids aren't going to stay kids forever (and are beautiful even when they're running around), there’s no younger you than today, and there’s no time like the present. Right now, today is truly all we’re guaranteed in this life.
Take advantage of it.
